How Liverpool winning the Champions League could affect Chelsea and Arsenal in Europe next year

maxbet All eyes will be on the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex in Ukraine today as Real Madrid and Liverpool meet in this season's Champions League final. On paper, it's a mouthwatering prospect. Two teams with plenty of goals about them plus Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah will be going head-to-head in a bid to claim the trophy for the respective sides.

With the likes of the Egypt international, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane leading their line, the Reds could upset the odds and find themselves crowned European champions once more. Having sealed a top four finish in the Premier League this season Jurgen Klopp's outfit will be back in European football's elite competition next term regardless of the result on Saturday and can perhaps afford to approach the game with less pressure on their shoulders.

Meanwhile, Zinedine Zidane faces the prospect of failing to win the competition for a THIRD straight year and being sacked as a result (how crazy does that sound?). Should the Merseyside giants end Los Blancos' dominance in the competition then many are likely to wonder what that means for the other top six teams from the Premier League in Europe next season.

Of course, there was the nightmare scenario that could have seen one of Tottenham Hotspur or Chelsea demoted to the Europa League next season even if they had finished fourth. For that to have happened, Liverpool needed to drop out of the top four but win the Champions League while Arsenal had to finish sixth and crown Arsene Wenger's final season as manager by claiming Europa League glory. maxbet

As you are all well aware, none of the above came to fruition. In fact, Spurs finished third and their north London rivals only managed to complete one part of the equation as they watched from home when Atletico Madrid comfortably beat Marseille in the final last week. But is there a loophole in which the Blues - who finished fifth - or the Gunners can qualify for the Champions League if the Reds beat Real Madrid?

Well, the answer is no. Not a chance.
Even though UEFA regulations state five teams from the same league can compete in Europe's elite competition, the only way in which an English team can make the Champions League is by finishing in the top four, winning the trophy or winning the Europa League. Chelsea did win a trophy this season, but it was the FA Cup and Arsenal ended the campaign without any silverware. Therefore neither have any reason to be hoping for a Liverpool win on Saturday evening as there won't be any reward at the end. maxbet

Son & Dembele out, Alli replacement - 5 ways Spurs could line up with Jack Grealish next season

sbothai Aston Villa star Jack Grealish has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in recent days, but where exactly would the midfielder fit in at the club?Tottenham fans know very well that the 22-year-old will not walk straight into Mauricio Pochettino's side if he makes the move to London. That's not the Pochettino way.

Every player must earn his spot in the team, but if he impresses and works hard then he more than likely to keep the shirt ahead of more experienced names, as Davinson Sanchez proved last season.Grealish has certainly had his off-the-field issues in the past but the former England U21 international appears to have found his focus this season and was one of the stars of the Villa team that reached the Championship play-off final only to lose to Fulham.

He replaces Dembele
There are fears that with just a year left on his contract Mousa Dembele will depart Tottenham. The Belgian has not been able to agree a new deal and Spurs may choose to cash in on him this summer with his stock potentially high if he has a good World Cup.Grealish has been used in a deeper position this season for Villa and has produced the best football of his career in the role.

While he is a different player to Dembele and will not bring the power and strength on and off the ball the 30-year-old brings to Spurs, Grealish will offer more in an attacking sense alongside the defensive midfielders like Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama. There is of course another player who will have something to say about Grealish's claim to Dembele's throne and that is Harry Winks. sbothai The other 22-year-old central midfielder will be fit for the new season and it could prove to be a fascinating battle between two young English players if Grealish signs.

Unlucky for Son
Poor Heung-Min Son. He's scored goals galore in recent seasons and been a key player in Tottenham's campaigns. Yet if there's one man to come out of the team, Pochettino invariably picks the South Korean star.Grealish began his career further up the pitch and is capable of playing across the pitch, including on the left of the attacking midfield slots, where Son plays much of his football for Spurs.

sbothai Grealish shares Son's ability to dribble past people, although he does not boast the Spurs man's eye for goal, with just the three goals last season in the Championship.Once again though there are others in Spurs' squad who will contest the spot with Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura among those looking to earn that first team place.
